If you are old enough to have experienced and remember pop culture in the 90s and the decade that followed, you know how famous actress Cameron Diaz was. Among the numerous roles she took on, some of the most famous ones include “My Sister’s Keeper,” “Vanilla Sky,” “What Happens in Vegas,” “There’s Something About Mary,” and, of course, “Charlie’s Angels.”
Although the actress retired from the big screen a few years ago to focus on other important parts of her life, recent news has revealed that she will be back to star in a new action-comedy film called “Bank in Action,” co-starring Jamie Foxx.
We can’t wait to see her do what she does best again, and there’s no denying the fact that she looks pretty much the same as she did as back in her Charlie’s Angels days. She also made a cameo on season 7 of the show “Drag Race All Stars” as a guest judge, where she managed to look stunning, as always.
What’s her secret, you ask? Well, there are several of them and they aren’t really secrets, given that she has written two books on the topic. One of them “The Body Book,” is a New York Times bestseller as well! She then wrote a follow-up book called “The Longevity Book: The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time,” where she talks about healthy life habits she cultivates to make aging as graceful as possible, and gives readers tips and inspiration to do the same.
Here are some other facts about the lifestyle that the famed actress, author, and mom leads that help her make 50 look so fabulous!
She Follows the Mediterranean Diet
A healthy diet is one of the things Diaz stresses about. Most of the time, she gears towards a Mediterranean diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seafood, good fats, and lots of protein. Her favorite go-to ingredient is brown rice couscous. Diaz keeps her breakfasts simple but nutritious with options like oatmeal or avocado toast.
While she stays away from processed and fatty foods most of the time, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t indulge at all. Diaz says that she follows the 80/20 rule when it comes to her diet. As you can guess, that entails 80% healthy eating and 20% giving in to her favorite guilty pleasures – cheeseburgers and bean burritos being two of them.
She Makes Her Own Food
As with a lot of things in life, you have an enhanced appreciation for food when you make it yourself. Plus, you are able to control exactly what goes into your body by limiting or swapping out certain ingredients. Cameron Diaz enjoys cooking, and she also does meal planning. She spends her weekend preparing homemade meals for the rest of the week so that she wouldn’t have to resort to the “quick option” as much.
She Makes Sure to Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Beauty sleep is extremely important, and Diaz sure knows this as she talks about it in The Body Book. But it’s not just about beauty because although your body may be at rest physically, your subconscious is working away to help your mind and body perform numerous cognitive functions. Not just that, but sleep is also a time when your body heals physically.
“We spend a good portion of our lives asleep—or trying to sleep—and the quality of that time spent sleeping determines our mood and our mental sharpness, and not just the next morning but the next years of our life,” Diaz pens in her book.
She Keeps Things Positive
Having a positive mindset isn’t just good for your mental health, it also has noticeable physical outcomes. According to Dr. Becca Levy, who makes a cameo in Diaz’s new book, people who cultivate optimistic views about growing older age better physically!
Cameron Diaz is a great example of proof of this concept. “A lot of us fear the idea of aging—getting older,” she writes in her book, “I look at aging like this: getting older is a blessing and a privilege, and if you lay the foundation for a healthy life in your younger years, your older years may very well be some of the best of your life.
Diaz also goes on to clarify that she’s not just talking about looks, but about the way you feel. If you take care of your body and be confident in your abilities, it will help you age a lot more gracefully, according to her book.
“I for one can say honestly that I feel better and stronger and more capable now than I did when I was twenty years old because I’ve taken better care of myself in the last fifteen years than I did in the first twenty-six years of my life,” says Diaz.
